ARTIST'S STATEMENTThe sources of inspiration for my work are diverse and often unrelated. I aminspired by forms within the garden and the patterns on them, botanical illustrations, textiles, and corroded metals. For me the garden is a place of calm and renewal; allowing a time of mediation and observation. Memories and the passage of time are continuing themes within my work. My training as a printmaker influences my surface approach and use of colour; it also allows me to create a drawing sensibility in my work. Washes of glass layers allow for experimentation with nuances of colour and surface as I interpret ideas. The transparent colours and the luminescence of them continue to seduce me. I generally work in a series using recurring elements to build layers of meaning into the piece. I am attempting to evoke the suggestion of the passage of time, the seasons of the garden and the phases of one's life.
